Blue Spill Takes Another Stab at History!

Blue Spill were dead excited to jump in with Nutopia for Sky History’s, Jack the Ripper: Written in Blood, a three part drama-documentary which explores the Whitechapel murders of 1888 and how “The Star” newspaper fuelled a Media frenzy causing hinderance to the Police investigation.

Blue Spill designed and integrated a wide range of graphics across the three part episodic drama doc, including text elements such as date cards, locators, and character cards. To evoke the era, we used typewriter styled fonts enhanced with textured, aged treatments that conveyed a vintage feel. We also crafted key document graphics used as pivotal references within the investigation – employing weathered textures and gritty colour palettes to match the show’s moody, period-specific aesthetic. Extending this visual language, we created a bespoke title card featuring handwritten typography, adding an organic, human touch.

In total, Blue Spill delivered 78 bespoke GFX elements and sequences, using a REC709 workflow in Adobe After Effects and Autodesk Flame to ensure consistency and high-end finish across the series.
