Blue Spill continued its collaborations with Stephen Kijak on another high profile music documentary. The band in question, southern rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd.

If I Leave Here Tomorrow: A Film About Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Stephen Kijack explores the music and backstory of one of America’s most legendary southern rock bands Lynyrd Skynyrd, the documentary focuses on the story of front man Ronnie Van Zant, his journey and his relationships with other band Members Gary Rossington and Allen Collins and is soundtracked by song from the bands first six albums which makes for a energetic roller coaster of a story.

We came on board this project to inject some fun and energy into some of the key photo sequences pinpointing key moments spanning through the bands career. Stephen as with all our collaborations opened the doors to our creativity for this project, allowing us to really push the photographic sequences in any direction we felt relevant. With a vast bank of images to choose from for each sequence, we decided to infuse our sequences with high energy, fast moves and quick cuts and overlay the with hand drawn animations and imagery of flames, lightning bolts, snakes and skulls, to give the sequences a second layer of intrigue which helped imbue the sequences with a heavy rock flavour without becoming to novelty or taking away from the images themselves.

We were beyond ecstatic with how the final sequences turned out for this project. Each one has its own personality and charm, yet still carry an element of unity through the techniques used in the animations. As well as these sequences we also designed the title card animation and text elements throughout.

Blue Spill delivered all GFX elements in HD using a Rec709 workflow within Adobe After Effects.
