Blue Spill teams up with Raw TV & Director Lyttanya Shannon to unravel one of the most mind-bending catfishing stories in Sweet Bobby: My Catfish Nightmare, a gripping feature-length documentary. The film delves into Kirat Assi’s nearly decade-long romantic relationship with a man she believes to be Bobby – a charming, mysterious figure who gradually becomes the centre of her world. As her relationship with Bobby deepens, a shocking truth begins to emerge and turns Kirat’s life upside down.
Blue Spill joined the project to seamlessly integrate the feature film’s extensive use of social media and digital environments, expertly recreating platforms like Facebook (with its older timeline versions), Google searches, and Pinterest boards to authentically match the look and feel of each platform during the time periods depicted. Our work also included designing other graphics, such as satnav interfaces which were designed to add a layer of realism to the film’s portrayal of the digital world central to Kirat’s story in Sweet Bobby: My Catfish Nightmare.
We were also entrusted with designing the film’s title card that would define the visual identity of the film and set the tone for the lower thirds and astons throughout. The concept behind the title card was to begin with a complete, unbroken image that slowly fractures, symbolizing the gradual unraveling of Kirat’s world and her emotions as the truth comes to light. This subtle visual metaphor reflects the emotional depth of her journey, enhancing the film’s narrative through design.
Blue Spill used an ACES workflow within Adobe After Effects and Autodesk Flame.
