The Pet Cemetery Murders I A Ghost Story

We were thrilled to team up once more with our long time collaborators at Lightbox Entertainment, for this chilling three-part HBO documentary series. The Pet Cemetery Murders: A Ghost Story, set against the abandoned Azalea Original Pet Cemetery in Toca, Louisiana. Once a final resting place for beloved pets, the cemetery becomes the backdrop to a story surrounded by mystery, murder and a distinctly haunting atmosphere.

Our role was to develop a unified suite of GFX across all episodes, built around the ghostly visual language of the series. We developed a strong, dark cinematic look with chiaroscuro lighting and heavy shadows set amongst a cold blue colour palette, paired with a bold and clean font design with warmer tones, enriched with glows to create an overall chilling aesthetic that felt embedded within the world of the story.

This approach was applied across a range of treatments, including photographs, documents, a microfiche device for displaying newspaper articles as all typographical elements.

We also had the pleasure of creating a short energetic opening title sequence extending the cold and haunted aesthetic while drawing on themes of nature, earth and the cemetery itself to an eerie and unsettling narrative.

In total, over 100 individual GFX sequences and elements were delivered, produced through a REC709 workflow across Adobe After Effects and Autodesk Flame.
