Blue Spill travels back in time with October Films to the Second World War for National Geographic’s compelling new docuseries, Erased: WW2’s Heroes of Colour, narrated by Idris Elba. This four-part series highlights the often overlooked contributions of soldiers of colour during World War II, focusing on four pivotal battles: Pearl Harbor, D-Day, Dunkirk, and the Battle of the Bulge.

Blue Spill was tasked with creating a distinctive logo along with corresponding episode titles, and comprehensive maps for the entire series. These elements were essential in enhancing the narrative and providing crucial context to the strategic movements in these significant battles. To align with the series’ visual aesthetic, we employed atmospheric textures and colours, layering acetate sheets over our maps to introduce new information dynamically, thereby deepening and enhancing the viewer’s understanding of the unfolding events.

Blue Spill delivered over 30 graphics including all maps and opening titles (with episodic titles) using an ACES workflow within Adobe After Effects and Autodesk Flame.
