On Netflix January 2023
What’s all the racket about?
Blue Spill designs for the Netflix Tennis documentary series; Break Point.
Following the 2022 Tennis season, covering Grand Slam tournaments such as The Australian Open and Roland Garros, the series travels alongside some of the world’s most talented up and coming tennis players from Paula Badosa to tennis bad boy Nick Kyrgios, charting their progression through tournaments and their careers.
Blue Spill were excited to come on board for the collaboration with Box to Box Films; developing and designing the overall graphical look for the series.
It was important to create a design, look and style that felt in keeping with the high level of sophistication that the tennis world projects and striking a visual balance between the competitive nature of the sport and a cinematic elegance.
For the title design we adapted our font to create a unique, bespoke logo which could be used for the title sting as well as the marketing and branding of the entire show.
The graphics throughout Break Point strive to be informative and to aid with the cinematic experience, with a consistent polished and sleek design throughout.
Other graphics included text based location, date, scoring cards and lower thirds. As well as more bespoke animated sequences such as tournament draws, social media posts and newspaper headlines.
Blue Spill delivered the show using an ACES workflow for HDR delivery in Adobe After Effects and Autodesk Flame.
