Blue Spill were very excited to work and collaborate with Broke And Bones Productions along with Sean Doherty for their Netflix special – Attack of the Hollywood Clichés! 

Attack of the Hollywood Clichés! takes us on a rollercoaster through the film/movie universe, delving into its most iconic and unforgettable clichés portrayed on the big screen. Over the course of two months, Blue Spill worked closely with the Production team in creating an iconic style of category introductions, corresponding to the show’s categories of Clichés across the film/movie universe. Some examples of categories include The Ticking Time Bomb, One Man Army, The Wilhelm Scream and there are many more, adding up to over 30 GFX sequences. 

For our design inspiration we looked to the ever increasing trend of the ‘alternative movie poster’. A sub genre of movie poster design, which over recent years has become ever so popular, allowing artists and designers to re-imagine and create their own versions of their beloved film posters. Building from this inspiration we created movie posters and billboard designs for every cliche that featured in the film. Boiling the cliché down to its simplest form, incorporating simple graphical elements which were cleverly positioned or connected to create deeper visual meanings whilst also allowing us to infuse fun and humour into the designs.

For Attack of the Hollywood Clichés Blue Spill used an ACES workflow in Adobe After Effects and Autodesk Flame.
